Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 With Snapdragon 630 SoC, Dual Rear Cameras Expected to Launch in January 2018

Xiaomi’s successor to popular Redmi Note 4, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is highly anticipated smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker. Though no official confirmation has been received for the Redmi Note 5, rumours have offered plenty of new details for the upcoming device.

A leaked live image on Weibo, claimed to be of Redmi Note 5 shows an all screen display along with some specs listed in the Chinese language. Xiaomi seems to have moved from the to a taller 5.99-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio for its Redmi Note 5 as opposed to 5.5-inch display found on Redmi Note 4 and Note 3. This finally brings the trendy bezel-less tall display design to the Redmi series. However, the device retains the same FHD+ 1080 x 2160 pixel screen resolution as its predecessor.
Some of the other specs confirmed by the leaked image reveal the Redmi Note 5 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC, which will become standard among mid-range devices next year. The image showed the device with 64GB onboard storage. The Redmi Note 5 is likely to launch with two RAM and storage configurations, a 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and a 4GB RAM with 64GB storage version. Xiaomi may not launch the 2GB RAM variant of Redmi Note 5.
As for optics, there is a 12MP camera sensor in the rear. With most smartphones now coming with dual cameras, it is likely the Redmi Note 5 may bring in dual camera configuration with two 12MP sensors. There is a 5MP selfie shooter as per rumours, though once again we can expect dual sensors up front.

The Redmi Note 5 also expected to sport a beefy 4000mAh non-removable battery. Much like the recently launched Redmi 5A, the smartphone is expected to come with even a greater standby time. The device is also expected to support dual-SIM in hybrid SIM tray that will double as microSD card expansion.
Even though the leaked image showed the device running Android 7.1.2 Nougat, it is now likely the Note 5 will launch with latest MIUI 9 atop the Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.
It is still not clear when the Redmi Note 5 will be announced. Based on the release of Redmi Note 4 which was unveiled in January 2017, we should expect Note 5’s announcement before the end of this year or early in January 2018. And the device will compete with the likes of Honor 7X and Moto G6 Plus smartphones.
